What You Need To Make Smoked Peaches with Spiced Rum Whipped Cream

  • Traeger pellet smoker or another kind of smoker
  • Hardwood pellets or your favorite pellet flavor
  • Fresh peaches – I use firm, ripe peaches so they hold their shape when smoked; underripe peaches can be too tart (see my notes below).
  • Turbinado sugar or brown sugar – Adds caramel flavor when sprinkled on the peaches; either works depending on your preference.
  • Heavy whipping cream – Use full-fat for a stable, fluffy whipped cream; lighter creams won’t hold as well.
  • White sugar – Granulated sugar. Sweetens the whipped cream. Powdered sugar works too and dissolves faster.
  • Spiced rum – Use spiced rum, not regular rum. Spiced rum has vanilla, cinnamon, and warming spices that complement the peaches.
  • Vanilla – I use almost exclusively artificial vanilla extract, but use what you’re comfortable with.

Preheat your Traeger pellet smoker or other smoker according to the manufacturer’s directions and set it to 225°F (107°C). Prepare a grill pan or basket for the peaches so they are easy to transfer on and off the smoker.

Cut the peaches in half and remove the pits carefully to keep the halves intact. Sprinkle the cut sides evenly with Turbinado sugar, then place the peaches cut side down on the grill pan.

Smoke the peaches at 225°F for about 30 minutes, until they are tender and lightly caramelized with visible grill marks and a soft, juicy texture.

While the peaches smoke, make the whipped cream using a hand mixer. Whip the heavy cream until it begins to thicken, then add the sugar, vanilla, and spiced rum. Continue whipping until stiff peaks form and the cream holds its shape.

Remove the peaches from the smoker and let them rest for 2–3 minutes. Serve warm with a generous dollop of spiced rum whipped cream on top.

Chef Jenn’s Tips

  • Use good quality fresh, ripe peaches for this recipe
  • Turbinado sugar has a lovely texture and flavor (and is my favorite) but brown sugar will work if that’s all you’ve got
  • Start with a hot smoker so the peaches don’t stick to the grill
  • Keep the whipping cream cold until you’re ready to whip it, and stop whipping when stiff peaks form or you could over-whip it into a curdled mess
  • A touch of fresh mint goes lovely with this smoked dessert recipe

How To Serve Smoked Peaches with Spiced Rum Whipped Cream

I love these smoked peaches with spiced rum whipped cream, but ice cream or a drizzle of chocolate are also decadent additions. My daughter swears that caramel sauce makes them 10x better, but I’m a spiced rum whipped cream kind of gal!

I love Smoked Peaches for dessert after a feast of Smoked Pulled Pork or Smoked Shrimp. Make use of that smoker while it’s busy smoking meats!

Yummy! It is so easy and an instant hit with our family and friends. Whipped cream beautifully complements the peaches. In fact, we all liked these smoked peaches with whipped cream more than with the ice cream.
