How To Make Instant Pot Hard-Boiled Eggs

Who doesn’t love hard-boiled eggs? They’re so versatile – I love using them for egg salad, for snacking, for slicing on top of leafy salads, to make deviled eggs, and so much more! But every one of these dishes starts with hard-boiled eggs, and getting perfect hard-boiled eggs can take a bit of experience!

Making hard-boiled eggs in the Instant Pot is easy. You only need a few things and a few minutes. Before you know it, you’ll have perfectly cooked eggs ready for all your favorite recipes.

What You Need To Make Hard-Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

  • An Instant Pot – Any size Instant Pot will do.
  • Eggs – White or brown; it doesn’t matter!
  • Water
  • Ice water bath – This is the fastest way to chill the eggs so they don’t overcook.

How To Make Instant Pot Hard-Boiled Eggs

Place the eggs into the Instant Pot insert in a single layer.

Add the eggs. Water should come halfway up the sides of the eggs.

Secure and lock the lide. Then set the Instant Pot on manual/high pressure for 5 minutes.

Natural release for 5 minutes, then open the lid.

Fill a bowl with ice and water and carefully transfer the eggs to the ice water bath to chill. Leave them there for 10 minutes.

Chef Jenn’s Tips

  • There’s always an argument over which eggs peel better – fresh or older. I’m not going to go there. All I can say is that I don’t age eggs just so peeling them is easier.
  • Don’t stack the eggs in the Instant Pot. You want to keep them in one layer.
  • The cooked eggs are hot! Use tongs or a slotted spoon to take them out.
  • If you’re using small or medium-sized eggs, reduce the cooking and natural release time by 1 mintue.

Ingredients

  • 8 eggs
  • water
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Lay the eggs into the Instant Pot insert. Make sure the eggs are in one layer.
  • Add water to the Instant Pot – the water should come halfway up the side of the eggs.
  • Seal the lid and set your Instant Pot on manual/high pressure and set the timer for 5 minutes. It will take it about 5minutes to pressurize and then it will start the 5-minute cooking countdown
  • Let the pot naturally release for 5 minutes before manually releasing and removing the eggs.
  • Fill a bowl big enough to hold the eggs, with water and some ice.
  • Immediately place the eggs from the instant pot into the cold water. Leave for 10 minutes. Enjoy!
