Smoked Jalapenos are pretty much the perfect thing to smoke. They’re inexpensive, they’re spicy, and they’re smoky! Loaded with flavor, I add jalapenos to my Traeger just about every time we fire it up – they’re just that good! And, because jalapenos are a vegetable, they’re not going to add fat or calories to your meal – just in case you’re watching those sorts of things.
I’ve smoked jalapenos at a higher heat (around 350F) and I’ve smoked them low-and-slow (around 225F) and they always turn out perfectly! If you want them to have more smoke flavor, low-and-slow is the way to go, but if you just want to add a tasty side dish to something you’re grilling, then pop the jalapenos on at just about any temperature.

- How many jalapenos per person? I count on 1-2 jalapenos as a side dish, or 3-4 as an appetizer or snack.
- The smoking takes a bit of the heat out of the jalapenos, but you can encourage guests to remove the seeds if they don’t like them too smoky.
- Don’t over smoke the jalapenos – they can dry out!

Dips for Smoked Jalapenos
Wondering what to dip your smoky jalapenos into? I love them with a cool and creamy dip like this creamy jalapeno dip, or go for extra flavor with a bourbon BBQ sauce or spicy garlic aioli. But, they’re delicious all on their own!
Make It A Meal
Wondering what to serve with Smoked Jalapenos? I love them as a snack (tailgating, anyone?), or I’ll put them out with other tasty appetizers when I have guests over. They also make a great side dish and accompaniement to dishes like smoked steaks, smoked pork tenderloin, and pork belly burnt ends.
Smoked jalapenos are also excellent on sandwiches, pizzas, and in salsa.
Smoked Jalapenos Vs. Chipotles
What’s the difference between smoked jalapenos and chipotles? They are both jalapenos, but chipotles are made from ripened jalapenos (that have turned red) and are then smoked and dried. Smoked jalapenos chilis are made from green jalapenos and, while smoked, are not then dried.
Storage
Package leftovers in an airtight container and keep them in the fridge for 2-3 days. Any longer than that and they’ll start to get slimy. Not nice.
