What Is Popcorn Chicken?
Made famous by KFC and now available in grocery stores everywhere, popcorn chicken are small pieces of breaded chicken. Smaller than nuggets and irregular in shape and size, popcorn chicken is perfect for dunking, snacking, or enjoying as a part of a hearty meal.
For this recipe, I’m using Tyson’s Popcorn Chicken in the air fryer, but any brand will do. Just be sure to keep it frozen until you’re ready to cook, and having an instant-read thermometer on hand will ensure that the chicken is fully cooked and safe to eat.
What You’ll Need
- Air fryer – I used a basket-style air fryer for this recipe but an oven-style will work, too.
- Popcorn chicken – I could fit a little more than half of a 24-ounce bag into my air fryer.

This is why I love my air fryer so much. Rather than preheat my oven for 15 minutes, then bake for at least 30 minutes, I can just pop these in and out in no time.
