Easy Burrito Sauce

Burritos are near-perfect food, and I’ve eaten my share of burritos, but sometimes, they lack that extra zing. You’ve got your meat, veggies, maybe some Mexican rice, all wrapped up in a warm tortilla. Yet, despite your best efforts, something is missing. That’s where my Burrito Sauce comes into play. This sauce is an absolute game-changer, bringing your burritos and other Mexican favorites to a whole new level – and it’s so easy to make!

A good, zippy, and spicy burrito sauce is the difference between a good burrito and a GREAT burrito. But this easy sauce is good on so much more than burritos. Slather it onto tacos, serve it as a dip with chips, or just dunk chicken tenders into it. It’s delish!

I really love that this sauce is so easy. I created it to have maximum flavor with minimal fuss, so it’s ready quickly with no cooking, and you can make it in your blender or food processor.

Chef Jenn’s Tips

  • Always opt for high-quality ingredients; they really do make the difference between a good and a great sauce.
  • A little heat goes a long way; start with half a chipotle in adobo sauce and adjust to taste.
  • Make sure to shake your Tabasco sauce well; the flavors tend to separate over time.
  • Did you open a can of chipotle in adobo just for this recipe? Freeze the rest in a baggie, then just cut off what you need next time you have a recipe calling for this ingredient.
  • If your sauce ends up too thick, a splash of lime juice can make it just right without watering down the flavors.

Make It A Meal

Why limit this sauce to just burritos? Use it to jazz up your Baja fish tacos, slather it over your homemade carnitas, or use it as a dip for your quesadillas. A bowl of this sauce can even transform a simple guacamole snack board into a culinary masterpiece.

Storage

When it comes to storing your homemade Burrito Sauce, an airtight container in the fridge will keep it fresh for up to a week. Freezing isn’t recommended due to the dairy content, but chances are this sauce will be gone long before you even think about needing to freeze it.
