- Coffee
- Whipped Cream
- Chocolate shavings
How to Make Canadian Coffee
- Brew 4-6 ounces of your favorite strong, unflavored coffee. Don’t add cream or sugar.
- Pour the coffee into a mug and let it settle.
- Carefully pour the liqueur down the side of the glass so it settles at the bottom of the cup, under the coffee layer.
- Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, and serve.
What kind of glass do you need for a Canadian Coffee?
You can use an Irish Coffee mug – they’re taller and slimmer than usual mugs and are often clear so you can see the gorgeous layers. But for a Canadian Coffee, any glass mug will do. Canadians aren’t quite so fussy!
Chef Jenn’s Tips
- For the perfect layered drink, let the coffee in the cup become still before adding the liqueur to prevent mixing.
- Choose a high-quality coffee to complement the richness of the Cabot Trail Maple Cream.
- Garnishing with chocolate shavings not only adds a visual appeal but also enhances the overall taste.
Make It A Meal
Pair this exquisite Canadian coffee with a rich chocolate brownie or a warm, buttery pastry for a heavenly experience. It’s perfect for a brunch setting or as an after-dinner treat. The combination of the coffee’s warmth and the creamy liqueur makes it an ideal pick for dessert any time of the day!
Storage
Canadian coffee is best enjoyed fresh. However, if you have leftover Cabot Trail Cream liqueur, store it in the refrigerator. It’s not recommended to store the prepared coffee as the flavors and textures are best when fresh. If you’re preparing for a gathering, keep the brewed coffee and liqueur separate and assemble just before serving for the best taste and presentation.

So I have a weakness for maple syrup! My sister lives in Canada with her husband and kids while I live in Australia. We take it in turns to visit at Christmas. Although she is always telling me that she is more than happy to always come to me (I think it’s the sunshine!!) But I love the snowy white Christmas vibe.
Anyway! I saw this before Christmas and sent her it and said I wanted to try the Maple Cream liqueur when I visited. (and how upset I was that she hadn’t shared the treasure with me before!)
So I arrived in Golden(British Columbia) and as soon as we arrived she made us both a cup of coffee. We sat out on her porch with thick blankets, hats and scarfs and caught up on the last year.
It was perfect!
I use all my duty free allowance bring back the liqueur! I can’t wait for summer to be over so I can have another one. (I tried putting it in iced coffee and it wasn’t as good ๐
After that mini essay I’ll just say, thank you. I found something new to drink and made a precious memory!
What a fabulous story and memories! Thank you for sharing and I’m so glad you enjoyed the coffee!
