I love making smoked cocktails. You just need a cocktail smoking kit and you’re all set (see my current favorite below.) But instead of using the wood shavings that come with the kit, crush up a cinnamon stick and use that! 

I was afraid cinnamon smoke would be too acrid or not flavorful, but I was wrong! With subtle cinnamon notes in the smoke and that smoke infusing the cocktail with flavor, this might just be my new favorite winter cocktail!

  • Whiskey
  • Simple syrup
  • Angostura bitters
  • Ice cube
  • Cinnamon sticks for smoking
  • Maraschino cherry – Or orange twist for garnish.

How to Make Cinnamon Smoked Old Fashioned

  1. Ensure your work area is free from fire hazards. You’ll be working with a live flame, so remove anything that could catch on fire.
  2. Gather the materials from your smoked cocktail kit and have them nearby.
  3. Add the simple syrup and bitters to a rocks glass or old-fashioned glass and stir gently to mix.
  4. Add the whiskey and an ice cube (optional).
  5. Put the wooden plate with mesh shavings basket over the top of the glass.
  6. Add cinnamon shavings to the mesh basket and ignite it with the torch.
  7. Hold the flame on the shavings until the top of the glass fills with the desired amount of smoke.
  8. Turn off the torch, and when ready, remove the wooden plate.
  9. Garnish with a bit of orange peel and a cherry, and enjoy!
