Ranch Butter Snack Mix

This ranch butter snack mix bakes low and slow so the seasoning melts in instead of sitting on top, coating oyster crackers, pretzels, cereal squares, and saltines in even, crisp flavor. It's built for game day, potlucks, or any spread that needs a bowl people keep coming back to.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ounce dry ranch seasoning mix or 1-ounce packet
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried chili flakes
  • freshly ground black pepper about ¼ teaspoon
  • 2 ½ cups oyster crackers
  • 2 ½ cups wheat Chex or Shreddies
  • 2 ½ cups mini pretzels
  • 2 ½ cups mini saltine crackers

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 250°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or nonstick aluminum foil.
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat or in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir in the ranch seasoning, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, chili flakes, and black pepper until well combined.
  • Combine the oyster crackers, cereal squares, mini pretzels, and broken saltines in a very large mixing bowl.
  • Pour the seasoned butter over the snack mix and gently toss until every piece is evenly coated.
  • Spread the mixture into an even layer on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring every 8 to 10 minutes, until the snack mix is lightly toasted, crisp, and fragrant.
  • Cool completely before serving or storing in an airtight container.

Notes

Recipe Card Tips

  • Melt the ranch seasoning into the butter rather than sprinkling it on dry crackers. Sprinkling leaves in bare spots and clumps.
  • Let the mix cool completely in the pan before storing. It firms up and crisps as it cools; the warm mix still feels soft.
  • Bake at 250°F, not higher. A hotter oven browns the seasoning before the crackers underneath finish crisping.
