Ingredients

  • 8 sslices garlic bread I like using prepared garlic bread—it’s so easy!
  • 8 slices aged Havarti or your favorite sharp cheddar; sliced
  • 1 cup mozzarella or another mild, easy-melting cheese; shredded

Instructions

  • Preheat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
  • Place four slices of garlic bread buttered side down on the skillet.
  • Top each slice with two pieces of Havarti (or cheddar) and sprinkle ¼ cup of shredded mozzarella over the sliced cheese.
  • Place another slice of garlic bread, buttered side up, on top of each sandwich.
  • Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing down slightly with a spatula to help the cheese melt and create a crispy golden crust. The bread should be golden brown, and the cheese fully melted.
  • Remove from the skillet and let the sandwiches rest for a minute before slicing and serving.

Notes

Chef Jenn’s Tips

  • Look for a good balance of garlic and butter. The bakery section often has excellent options, or you can use your favorite frozen variety.
  • If you don’t have Havarti or cheddar, try Swiss or Gruyère for a deeper, richer flavor.
  • Cooking on medium heat ensures the bread doesn’t burn while the cheese melts.
  • Sprinkle some garlic powder or dried herbs like oregano or basil on the cheese for added taste.
  • For a heartier meal, add slices of tomato, bacon, or sautéed mushrooms between the cheese layers.
