Waldorf Salad

Crisp greens, sweet fruit, and crunchy nuts add plenty of color, texture, and flavor to this classic salad that's a welcome addition on any table.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups mixed greens
  • 1 apple
  • 1 pear
  • 2 cups grapes
  • 1 cup celery
  • 1/2 cup craisins
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 1/2 cup fried shallots
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese or your favorite cheese crumbles or shreds
  • 1/2 cup salad dressing use your favorite

Instructions

  • Prepare the greens. Wash and spin them dry if necessary. Keep them chilled until ready to serve.
  • Cut the fruit. Core the apple and pear and slice them thinly. Sprinkle the apples with lemon juice if you're cutting them ahead of time.
  • Slice the celery and green or red grapes.
  • Toast the pecans or walnuts. You can toast the nuts on a baking sheet in a low (325-F) oven or in a dry skillet.
  • Assemble the salad by topping the greens with the fruit, nuts, crumbled cheese, and fried shallots.
  • Serve the dressing on the side, and enjoy!
