Forget store-bought dips – it’s so easy to make your own! It only takes a handful of ingredients to make this fresh and flavorful dip, and once you’ve tasted it, you’ll never want any other kind!
I love making this dip for parties and gatherings or just for snacking on movie nights. But this easy Cajun Dip is really versatile – it’s great as a dip but also as a spread and dipping sauce. There are so many things you can do with it and ways to enjoy it that you’re limited only by your imagination!
What you’ll love about Making Cajun Dip
- It’s so easy – just measure, mix, and serve!
- It’s a great dip, sauce, dressing, spread, and more!
- Everybody loves it!
Ingredients
- Mayonnaise – Full fat or low-fat, whatever you have on hand is fine.
- Sour cream – I always cut the mayonnaise with sour cream. It adds more flavor and creaminess.
- Cajun seasoning – Your favorite store-bought blend is fine.
- Lemon juice – From a fresh lemon.
- Smoked paprika – You can use regular paprika if that’s all you have, but smoked paprika has extra flavor.
- Cayenne powder – This is optional but well worth it if you like your dip to have a bit of a kick.
How To Make The Best Cajun Dip
This recipe couldn’t be any easier. For a full list of ingredients and instructions, please scroll down to the recipe near the bottom of this page.
- Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl.
- Refrigerate the dip for at least an hour or overnight to let the flavors really blend.
- Serve and enjoy!
Variations
- Cajun seasoning is a blend of paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper, and sometimes thyme. Feel free to make your own blend of spices instead of using a pre-blended mix. I’d use a good pinch of each of the following and adjust after that: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, dried thyme, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
- You can swap Greek yogurt for the sour cream or even just use all Greek yogurt. This is a really forgiving Cajun Dip recipe.
- Like it spicy? Add a bit more cayenne or even chipotle powder.
How To Serve Cajun Dip
With potato chips, pretzels, or any of your favorite dippers, this dip is terrific! Here are some of my favorite ways to use this dip:
- As a dip with chips, pretzels, veggies, or crackers.
- It’s a terrific dip for grilled shrimp, fried pickles, chicken popcorn, or even grilled chicken and steak.
- Try it as a remoulade with your crab cakes or Fried Tomatillos – yum!
- Thin it a bit and use it as a salad dressing.
- I love it as a sandwich spread – it’s amazing on a good pastrami sandwich, French dip sliders, and more!
Chef Jenn’s Tips
- If your dip is too thick, you can thin it with a bit of milk.
- If your dip is too thin, add a bit more mayo or sour cream to thicken it up. You may need to adjust the seasonings after that.
- Lemon juice really brings out the flavors, so try not to skip it.
- You can use all mayonnaise for a dairy-free Cajun dip or all sour cream if you don’t care for mayonnaise.
- Use white pepper instead of black to avoid big black flecks in your dip.
- This is an eggless dip (no mayo), and so are these eggless chocolate chip cookies!

Storage
This dip will keep just fine in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or an extra day or two if your dairy is super fresh.
